Getting lots of backlinks using your chosen search term as the anchor text... that's about it really.

Yes, get your site linked on as many like-minded high-PR sites as you can.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but PR has nothing to do with SERPs. It's just a quality measure and nothing else.

That's a widely held misconception - PR does make a difference when it comes to SERPs. All other things being equal a PR5 page is always going to come out on top of a PR3 page in Google's SERPs. That's difficult to observe in practice, because all other factors tend not to be equal.

This is what they say on the issue:

Of course, important pages mean nothing to you if they don't match your query. So, Google combines PageRank with sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to your search.

You know... Every where I go I see people asking "How do i get ranked on the first page" etc. etc. and every where those threads are, the posts inside of it include "Get back links! Lots and LOTS of back links!"

Well first of all no one is going to give you a free high PR back link (at least not enough of them for it to even matter). So what does this mean? Build a decent website with good content, great SEO and market it properly... This will lead to other sites noticing your site and putting a link up to it.

There are a few things you can do to get your self a boost though. Select one keywork you wish to start getting ranked for and stick with it! (hopefully that keyword is in part of your url but it doesnt necessarily need to be)

* Create a myspace profile named Yourdomain.com
* Submit 1 article to article directories with your keyword as the title
* Upload Videos with your url in the description to Myspace tv
* Create an Amazon AStore named Yourdomain-com
* Create a channel on Youtube using your keyword
* Post a topic on related forums with the keyword in the subject line. (try something like yourdomain.com may be for sale - anyone interested?)
* Create a Yahoo Group called Yourdomain-com
* Create a Google group called Yourdomain-com
* Create a Mybloglog account named yourdomain.com
* Use a social bookmarking program like BookMarking Demon
* Upload video to AOL video with the title yourdomain.com and your url in the description
* Run all of these urls (your mysapce url, the youtube channel, google group url, etc. etc. not your own site) through BMD, TrackBack Spider, Blogpinger, and whatever else you can leave on while you sleep.
