Excellent for starting off your site ..

These are a few websites and some software which will help you research the current market.

- Yahoo Overture Tool, http://inventory.overture.com/d/sear...ry/suggestion/

Overture tells you how many times words have been searched in search engines - E.G : Sport has been searched 410328 times. This would tell you that there is a huge market for sport websites, however with the great demand, comes a greater amount of websites, thus more competition.

This brings me onto the next website, Wordtracker.

- Wordtracker, http://wordtracker.com/, tells you how many times the word you are looking for has been typed into MSN (all search engines with the paid full version), then tells you the worth of this keyword and the competitiors. This is an excellent website, and i would fully reccomend buying a full version becuase information is extracted from all search engines instead of the comparitively lower ones such , I.E: MSN.

If your buying a website of somebody else which is a developed site, try http://www.archive.org/index.php. It will give you the full history of the site, which would help if the site is generating high levels of traffic, you can see where the traffic is coming from (ie: genuine website, or previous site pointed to it).

These are just a a few sites to visit. If you have any more queries, feel free to PM me or post in this thread.

- Shyam

Another thing that I would reccomend doing when you are buying a website from somebody is to check the Alexa ranking of the website and the Google Pagerank, as these are both very imporant in determining the amount of traffic that a website receives.

For doing this I would reccomend the tool YourPR as it checks both of these ranks at the same time.

Im a frequent user of this site, and i would also reccoment the domain research tool, www.domainresearchtool.com, it gives you the Alexa ranking, google PR, expiration date, whether available or not - and also gives you a auto - appraisal price.

I'd really recommend this tool if you could afford it. It really helps optimize your site.
