Hey,
Want to know how to go from nothing to $30 a day and 700,000 hits day? The answer is simple. Proxy.
I opened my site, to bypass things in school, and ended up making a fair bit of cash. I don't advertise, promote or anything. Now Hits roll in, and so does the cash

Your best option is to switch to CGI, enable url encoding, point all the domains to one main one. Then every week or so, change the layout to keep the CTR up. Try adding some random stuff too.

Planning to start proxy site
|
|
Hello,
I am planning to start a proxy site, would it be wise to start small and go with Dreamhost (or other shared hosting) or just get a VPS or dedicated server right away?

CGI Proxy doesn't give you an option. It's either on or off, which is chosen by you.

VPS, then go to Dedicated. Make sure the VPS has around 1gb ram.

Hello,
Does anybody have recommendations for a VPS hosting solution? I was looking at Virpus.com but they only offer guaranteed RAM + burstable RAM.

Sure. First you need a web host. I reccomend Softlayer, but layeredtech have some good xmas specials. Let me know where you order.

If you search CGI Proxy, it will be roughly the first one. Also pointing them all to one, would make it easier to manage it all.

Virpus is not allowing proxies now. I emailed them a few day back about this. I use a ServInt VPS and have been using it for non proxy sites for over a year. ServInt is really great as far as managed VPS goes but their packages do not offer a lot of bandwidth with their packages (300GB-750GB) and more on their dedicated servers but it is very expensive. I am just using it as I get my feet wet in the proxy site biz. If my sites start to make any money at all I will switch immediatly to Softlayer or something like it.

Actually I have no problem with traffic at all. I do not want to have too much or my limited bw will get spent too fast. At the moment I am expirementing with the ads and modifying the script. From my surfing around I would say most proxy sites look horrible and are extremely annoying. I'd like my site to look ok, work and still make some money. Today the site will see ~300 uniques (which I know is nothing) but for my purposes just fine. The traffic is coming from proxy.org and a few low traffic topsites that were easy to rank on. Sohan, thanks for making the first post and inspiring me to try it out. Proxies had been on my to-do list but I just never got to it.
