Analysing the sites dedicated to Sachin Tendulkar in the #1-10 rankings, I would say 400-500 backlinks should get you in that coveted first or second positions.
A few ways you could start getting a healthy flow of traffic:
Post your link to Wikipedia, in the related sites section at the bottom. This will bring in 15-50 uniques a day from my experience.
Download youtube videos of Sachin Tendulkar, brand them with your domain name in the bottom right hand corner or something similar, and re-upload. Do this will about 10 videos every couple of days and you'll be receiving a nice amount of traffic.
